THE ART OF MEZZE [mey-ZEY]
Mezze is a selection of tasty dishes brought to you in small portions to begin the meal: delicious little bites of food enjoyed with a glass of wine or traditionally Raki – the aniseed flavoured national drink, sometimes referred to as Lion’s Milk.
Mezze tantalises the taste buds and allows you the opportunity to experience wide variety of Ottoman dishes from simple delights of Börek (stuffed pastry parcels) to the hearty, earthy flavours of dishes like Hunkar Begendi (Sultan’s delight), in which lamb is slow cooked and laid on a bed of smoked and puréed aubergines. Each dish conjuring up sensual images and the inimitable flavours of the east.
